Mahopac High has had a pretty sick history on the Section 1 (NYS) sports scene... so much so that it clearly has a the reputation as Putnam County's premier athletic program and one of the top three overall in Section 1 the past 25 years. It's Athletic Department, stoked by current A.D. Frank Miele and former A.D. Gerry Keevins, gets a lot of credit and rightfully so, but a rich history of three sport standouts is more likely the reason.
I say that because I got one fresh in my head who makes a world of difference to every team he's played on: This T.J. Foley kid.
Now, short of kissing Foley's tuckuss here, I'm just going to go ahead and throw this out there and see where it takes this initial blog entry: Foley may well be the finest three-sport standout in Mahopac history.
Talk amongst yourselves and prove otherwise if ya get some time, but bear in mind these vast accomplishments: He will be an All-Section QB, who will have taken Mahopac to the Class AA semifinals (at the very least), possibly its first title appearance ever; he will likely be an All-League basketball player as a hybrid G/F this winter; and he will be a certain two-time All-Section lacrosse player by the time he concludes his eight-letter varsity career next June.
You'll also likely stumble upon the names of Tyler Perrelle (football, hockey, lax) and Ryan McClay (football, hoops, lax), who also played the trumpet but doesn't get credit for that.
If nothing else, Foley's in the discussion, no?
"He's right up there," boys lax co-coach Dave Haddeland said.
"He's definitely in that discussion," co-coach Mike Haddeland added. "That kid is a coach's dream."
Naturally, we'll have to wait and see how Foley's senior year plays out, but I think he'll be mentioned in every discussion between guys like Keevins, Miele, Teddy Georgalas and Joe Corace... guys who have seen most of the great one's at Mahopac.
Ray, I think you nailed it! Best wishes to TJ and the Mahopac program...
